Life is a fleeting moment, but the Bible calls us to live it in light of eternity. Sometimes, we ask why someone so young has to die, not because we know we will receive a reason. We ask why because it is the only word that summarizes our laments.

Nehemi went to be with the Lord on Wednesday. Nehemi was born in Lagrange, Haiti. She was only 23 years old. She is also my niece. Her mother, Ennèse Saint Louis, passed away when she was only nine years old. My parents raised her, and by the time she was 19 years old, her father, Dorson Dastino, died. Last Wednesday, I received the sad news that she passed away after a slight fever and sore throat. She and my younger sister grew up like sisters, and my mom cared equally for them.

She loved Jesus and looked forward to the summer Bible camp every year. Her favorite Bible verse was John 3:16. She was cheerful and fun. Everyone loved Nehemi. Nehemiah is one of the most obedient people. It was a joy to be part of her life.

We’ve been supporting Nehemi with the school since 2012. She was in 7th grade. We will miss her. Please pray for the family at this time. I had never felt death hit so close to home. She was so young.
