We are in grieving for Nehemi Dastino

Life is a fleeting moment, but the Bible calls us to live it in light of eternity. Sometimes, we ask why someone so young has to die, not because we know we will receive a reason. We ask why because it is the only word that summarizes our laments.  Nehemi went to be with the Lord on Wednesday. Nehemi was born in Lagrange, Haiti. She was only 23 years old. She is also my niece. Her mother, Ennèse Saint Louis, passed away when she was only nine years old. My parents raised her, and by the time she was 19…

Wisly Sertilus/ original 2

I had the opportunity to meet Wisly’s father. He is a great father and a husband. Wisly is correct to say, “My parent work hard.” His parent works on the farm. They both have very little education, so they want to make sure Wisly and their three other children have a good education.  Wisly is now 19 years old and a sophomore in high school. He attends the government high school and hopes to become a doctor someday. He enjoys school and loves his teachers. Wisly is one of the originals and undoubtedly the most intelligent kid in the group.…

Our hope in Christ is eternal/Espwa nou nan Christ se yon bagay etènel

Josef Pieper said, "Hope, like love, is one of the very simple, primordial dispositions of the living person." A man with no hope is not alive. While the unbelievers constantly search for hope, when they find one, it lasts for a second, and then they are on the hunt for it again; we who believe in Christ have a solid and settled hope. Corinthians 15:19 reminds us of that when it states, "If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied." Our hope in Christ is eternal living hope as…

The originals 1: Farah Alexis

I met Farah Alexis in 2011, when she was seven years old, in a group of seven other kids, which I call the originals. Though I had dreamed of impacting my village since middle school and had no doubt God would use me someday, that day, seeing Farah and her other friends that summer, I knew it was a divine connection. The whole group followed me everywhere I went that week in the village. I spent that week walking with them around the village and praying that God would open the door to start an orphanage in the town. I…

Hope in God/ Espwa nan Bondye

Our hope in God is our strength in our suffering. The Haitian has a proverb that says, "Hope brings life" (my interpretation). The idea is that where there is hope, there is motivation and inspiration to continue living. If you can give someone hope, you can shape their future.  In psalms 39:7, we see that the psalmist is suffering, but he is sure that the Lord is responsible. He looked up for hope in the Lord. After crying, he stood and said, "(But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you! " He took a stand to silence…

Kill lying and deceit to be a disciple of Christ!

As darkness and light cannot stand simultaneously in one place, truth, and lie cannot live simultaneously. Only the stronger one will stand. In our case, the one who influences us the most testifies in which camp we stand, whether we are Christ’s disciple or we are of the world. We cannot be both. We must kill lying behavior to become Christ’s disciples. Jesus is the truth. Therefore, we are to be truthful.  The world says there is no absolute truth. Though we say we disagree, our action sometimes testifies to the opposite because we usually fail to tell the complete…

Kill our jealousy to become Christ’s disciples!

Jealousy can blind a man from realizing his uniqueness and identity in Christ. When we appreciate who we are in Christ, we are more likely to be satisfied with what we have and who we are. As disciples of Christ, we must have no jealousy toward others because we find confidence in reflecting Christ in the unique way God allowed us. Peter says I cannot do otherwise (Acts 5:29). To do otherwise is to betray who he is in Christ. Paul says if I live, not I but Christ (Galatians 2:20). He is satisfied with who he is. Jealousy is…

Kill Betterness to Christ’s Disciple!

If pride is the first sin ever committed, Bitterness is the poison that pollutes the soul Hebrews 12:14–15. A son killed his father because he cheated on his mother. A student destroyed his teacher’s office because he did not get a passing grade. Pride says we deserve all the best and are too good to be mistreated. Bitterness says to gather all the harm done to us, write it somewhere, and revendicate. “Bitterness is an attitude of extended and intense anger and hostility. It is often accompanied by resentment and a desire to get even. It results from not forgiving…

Kill the prideful desires to be Christ’s disciple!

We must kill our pride to become Christ's disciples. We must be willing to mirror Christ to be His disciples and Him our master. Pride feeds in our ego, and humility feeds in Christ. Jesus asks us, "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls" Matthew 11:29. When we accept his offer and kill our pride, it's no longer about us, but Jesus. Why? "Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires" Galatians 5:24. Paul teaches…

Jezi rele pou n vinn disip pa swiver

Gen yon gran diferans ant yon disip e yon moun ki senpman ap swiv yon moun. Moun ka swiv yon moun pou yon bagay, tankou swiv yon moun sou Twitter.
